Chelsea have agreed a £35m deal with Ligue 1 side Lille for the signing of N'Golo Kante, the club's new manager Frank Lampard has confirmed.
The Frenchman will be joining the Premier League giants from the Stade de France in Paris, where he played for seven years before moving to London last summer.
Lampard said: "We're delighted to announce that we've signed N'Golo Kante on a five-year contract. He is a player who I know very well and he brings everything you need at this level - quality, leadership, experience and most importantly his work rate."
Kante has been one of the standout performers for Lille since he moved to the club from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017.
He has won four league titles and two Coupe de la Ligue during his time at the Parc des Princes, but he was unable to help them win any silverware under his previous manager Christophe Galtier.
However, he did manage to lift the Ligue 1 title with Monaco earlier this year, which helped him secure a move to Chelsea.
Lampard believes that Kante's arrival will give his team added depth and experience in midfield.
"Having someone like N'Golo Kante in our squad is going to add so much to us," he added. "I'm sure he'll bring a lot of qualities to our team, not just in terms of his performances on the pitch, but also off it."
Kante will now link up with fellow new signings Cesar Azpilicueta, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Mateo Kovacic as Chelsea look to build upon their impressive start to the season under Lampard.
They currently sit top of the Premier League table after winning all six of their opening games of the campaign.
With Kante adding his experience and leadership to the mix, Chelsea fans can expect even more success ahead.
